Business analysis as an industry is immature, as a result the way the industry and the practitioners themselves understand the role is constantly evolving. In many ways Business analysis is poorly defined

Today Business analysis has moved from a purely technical role first noted in the 80’s and 90’s to a more general role which sits between the development and business teams. Organising business needs into development requirements.

Because BA’s need to speak both languages and deal with all stakeholders and teams, many of whom will be relying on the analysis to ensure the project is a success, BA’s need to be first and foremost great communicators. They also need to feel comfortable working in both highly technical as well as managerial worlds. As illustrated in the Business Analysis Maturity Model.
